The Chemicals and Fertilizers Ministry today said that a total of 15 vessels carrying fertilizers and fertilizer raw materials for India have safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz. The Ministry said that among the 15 vessels, eight vessels carrying 3.32 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of urea, four vessels carrying 2.57 LMT of diammonium phosphate and three vessels carrying 1.11 LMT of sulphur are on their way to India. It added that five more vessels are scheduled to sail for India.

Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers Jagat Prakash Nadda said that the West Asia conflict severely disrupted global supply chains, leading to higher fertilizer prices and longer shipment transit times. He noted that Indian Missions abroad actively assisted the Department of Fertilizers in establishing contact with potential global producers and suppliers. Mr. Nadda said that the Department of Fertilizers is continuously coordinating with State Governments to ensure regional availability and transparent distribution. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government has ensured that the interests of farmers remain fully protected.

The Ministry also noted that the natural gas supply to fertilizer plants has been fully restored to 100 per cent from the temporary decline of around 65 per cent. The Ministry further said that it has secured 197.56 lakh metric tonnes of fertilizer stocks, meeting more than 51 per cent of the country’s annual fertilizer requirement of 383.9 LMT. It noted that the coordinated efforts in fertilizer imports and domestic production have ensured adequate fertilizer availability across the country.
