Union Minister of Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh has emphasized the need to strengthen collaboration between India and Mauritius in emerging and sustainable sectors such as fisheries, ocean technologies, and desalination, describing them as the new frontiers of shared growth and prosperity.
Addressing senior Mauritian civil servants during the 2nd Capacity Building Programme for Senior Civil Servants in New Delhi, Dr. Singh said that India’s extensive experience in marine resource management and ocean-based technologies could significantly support Mauritius in achieving its long-term development and sustainability goals.
He encouraged Mauritian officials to explore joint projects in the blue economy and marine research, highlighting that India’s premier Earth Sciences institutions are ready to collaborate with their Mauritian counterparts to create a ten-year roadmap for ocean economy development. Dr. Singh also cited India’s progress under the Deep Ocean Mission as a model of how technology and innovation can be harnessed for sustainable marine growth.
The minister underlined that this partnership aligns with both countries’ vision of promoting eco-friendly and innovation-driven economic growth in the Indian Ocean region.
The capacity-building programme, which began on November 10, will continue till November 15, and forms part of the long-term cooperation framework signed between India and Mauritius in March this year. The initiative aims to enhance administrative capabilities and promote knowledge exchange between the two nations, deepening their strategic partnership in science, technology, and governance.
