The All India Unani Tibbi Congress (Uttar Pradesh) organised a grand programme to mark World Unani Medicine Day at Ravindralaya Auditorium, Lucknow, under the chairmanship of Professor Mushtaq Ahmed. Unani practitioners from across the country participated in the event.

During the programme, the gathering unanimously passed a resolution urging the government to ensure the appointment of Deputy Director (Unani) in the AYUSH departments of Delhi, Gujarat, West Bengal, Bihar, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh and Assam for the proper growth and administration of Unani medicine.

The Congress also demanded that renowned freedom fighter and Unani pioneer Masih-ul-Mulk Hakim Ajmal Khan be conferred the Bharat Ratna, and called for the establishment of a National Unani University in his name.

The chief guest at the event was Professor Pradeep Kumar Prajapati, Director of the All India Institute of Ayurveda, New Delhi. In his address, he appreciated the Centre’s efforts in promoting traditional systems of medicine through the formation of a dedicated Ministry of AYUSH and policy initiatives aimed at ensuring balanced development of all AYUSH streams.

He highlighted that the Government of India has recognised the birth anniversary of Hakim Ajmal Khan as Unani Medicine Day, calling it an opportunity to understand the contributions and inspiring legacy of the legendary Unani scholar.

Several eminent personalities including Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahali (Shahi Imam, Eidgah Lucknow), Prof Abdul Halim, Dr Mahmood Ahsan Siddiqui, Dr Raghuveer Singh, Prof Abdul Qavi, Dr Sikandar Hayat Siddiqui, Prof Mohammad Idris, Prof S.M. Arif Zaidi, Prof Rashid Qazi, Dr T.U. Siddiqui, Dr Najmus Sahar, Dr Shujauddin Ahmad and Dr Syed Ahmad Khan also shared their views.

A large number of senior Unani doctors, researchers and dignitaries from various states were present on the occasion.

The programme also witnessed the release of a special publication titled ‘World Unani Medicine Day 2026 Special Issue’, focusing on Dr Mohammad Fazlurrahman Sharar Misbahi: Life and Services.

Awards including the ‘Hakim Ajmal Khan World Unani Medicine Day Award’ and ‘Hakim Ajmal Khan Super Star’ honour were presented to various doctors and institutions for their contribution to the field.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr S.M. Ahsan Ejaz.
