Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu on Monday inaugurated upgraded public facilities at 57 airports across the country via video conference from Rajkot International Airport. The facilities include Udaan Yatri Cafes, Digi Yatra systems, free Wi-Fi zones, kids’ areas, Flybraries, and infrastructure upgrade projects.
On the occasion, Mr Naidu said, Prime Minister has prepared a master plan to strengthen the country’s logistics, with special attention to highways, railways, ports, and especially civil aviation. He said, the number of airports in India has increased from 74 in 2014 to over 165 now, with plans to expand to 350 in the coming years. He added that air travel has become more accessible and connectivity to smaller cities is improving.
The Minister also flagged off the first flight between Bhavnagar and Navi Mumbai from Bhavnagar Airport in Gujarat. He said the new service will enhance regional connectivity and link Bhavnagar more closely with the rest of the country.
Last month, these passenger-centric initiatives were launched at 44 airports from Coimbatore and today, the coverage has been further expanded to more airports across the country. The launch package also included the inauguration of Flybrary—a free library for travelers along with dedicated kids’ zones and AVSAR (Airports as Venue for skilled artisans) outlets promoting local SHG products.
