The United States has granted Bangladesh a 60-day waiver to purchase refined petroleum products or oil from Russia.
Bangladesh’s ministry of foreign affairs was formally informed of the decision by the US State Department on April 11. Officials of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division said the waiver took effect the same day and will remain valid till June 9.
Earlier, on March 12, the US Treasury Department had issued a 30-day waiver for transactions involving Russian crude oil and petroleum products. That waiver expired on April 11.
However, the earlier licence applied only to cargo shipments loaded on or before March 12 and was mainly intended to facilitate clearance of consignments already in transit.
