Bangladesh has received another 7,000 tonnes of diesel from India through the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline, marking the third consignment this month.
The fuel reached the railhead oil depot at Parbatipur in Dinajpur via the project’s receipt terminal. Meghna Petroleum Limited manager (operations) Kazi Robiul Alam confirmed the development on Thursday.
Diesel pumping from India’s Numaligarh Refinery Limited began around 8 pm on April 20, and the fuel takes around 65 to 70 hours to reach Parbatipur through the pipeline.
Earlier, another 5,000 tonnes of diesel had arrived on April 19 from the same refinery through the pipeline. With the latest shipment, Bangladesh has imported a total of 13,000 tonnes of diesel through the pipeline this month and 35,000 tonnes so far this year.
Authorities plan to import 25,000 tonnes of diesel from India in four consignments during April. Of these, 8,000 tonnes arrived on April 11 and 5,000 tonnes on April 19. Before that, a total of 22,000 tonnes had been imported in four consignments through the pipeline up to March this year.
The imported fuel is received at the Parbatipur depot and later distributed to state-owned companies, Padma, Meghna and Jamuna, for nationwide supply.
