The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has informed that the progress of area coverage under Kharif Crops has recorded more than 84 lakh hectare area as of 12th of this month. The Ministry said that kharif crops have witnessed a slight decline in area coverage of 3.44 lakh hectare area compared to the corresponding period of last year.

It added that the Sugarcane was cultivated in over 54 lakh hectare area, while Cotton was sown over more than 9 lakh hectare area. According to the Ministry, more than 6 lakh hectare area was covered with Jute and Mesta. Additionally, rice was sown over nearly 5 lakh hectare area, while pulses were cultivated in more than one lakh hectare area. The Ministry informed that Shri Anna and Coarse Cereals were grown on more than 4 lakh hectare areas. Meanwhile, the area cultivated with oilseeds was recorded with area coverage of more than 3 lakh hectares.
