Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is set to begin a three-day official visit to London tomorrow. According to the Commerce and Industry Ministry, the visit is a strategic move ahead of the July 15th enforcement of the landmark India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and the companion Double Contribution Convention (DCC).

During the visit, Mr Goyal will hold a high-level bilateral meeting with the United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for Business and Trade, Peter Kyle. The discussions will focus on preparations for the implementation of the trade pact, including regulatory coordination, customs facilitation and tariff liberalisation commitments aimed at enhancing market access for Indian exports.

The Ministry said the two sides will also review the operational roadmap for the DCC, which is expected to support greater mobility of professionals and businesses between the two countries. Discussions will further cover market access in the services sectors and measures to strengthen bilateral trade and investment ties.

During the visit, Mr Goyal will also address the opening plenary session of the India Global Forum in London on the theme, Capital, Innovation and the UK-India Moment. He will participate in a series of Government-to-Business engagements with industry leaders and investors as well.

The Minister is also scheduled to hold interactions with senior executives of leading global companies, including HSBC and Rolls-Royce, and take part in a business session organised by the UK-India Business Council. He will also lead a roundtable discussion hosted by Asia House with representatives of major global financial and industrial institutions.

The Commerce Ministry said the visit underlines India’s commitment to strengthening economic engagement with global businesses and investors and advancing the shared goal of achieving 120 billion US dollars in bilateral trade between India and the United Kingdom by 2030.
