The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has expressed deep concern over the alleged theft of money from donation boxes at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya, calling for strict legal action against those found guilty and urging the temple trust to strengthen its administrative and financial oversight.

In a statement issued on Thursday, RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale said the grand Ram Temple, built at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi site, is a symbol of the faith, devotion and sacrifice of millions of devotees and generations of struggle. He said the reported theft of donations has hurt the sentiments of devotees and caused widespread anguish.

Hosabale noted that, following a request from the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, the Uttar Pradesh government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter and initiated legal proceedings based on the team’s recommendations. He said it is essential that anyone found responsible during the investigation faces stringent punishment in accordance with the law.

The RSS also said that the Hindu community naturally expects the temple trust to treat the incident as an exceptional and serious matter and take effective steps to address any shortcomings in the temple’s administration, security and operational systems. Such measures, it said, are necessary to preserve the faith and confidence of millions of devotees and remove any confusion arising from the incident.

The statement expressed confidence that the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust would reinforce public trust through transparent financial management, efficient administration and systems that uphold the sanctity and religious character of the temple.

Appealing for calm, the RSS urged members of the Hindu community to exercise patience and restraint while the investigation is underway. It also cautioned against attempts by what it described as “anti-Hindu and anti-national forces” to exploit the incident to malign Hindu society and called on people to remain vigilant against such efforts.
