New Delhi: Shares of Godfrey Phillips India Limited took a sharp hit on Tuesday, crashing over 8 percent after the company announced its financial results for the quarter ending June 30, 2026. The weak quarterly performance, marked by a steep decline in both revenue and net profit, rattled investors across domestic markets.

The stock touched an intraday low of Rs. 2,045 per equity share, dropping nearly 7.44 percent from its previous close of Rs. 2,209.25. At the current market valuation, the company boasts a market capitalization of Rs. 31,945.06 crores.

Steep Decline in Q1 Earnings

For the first quarter of fiscal year 2027 (Q1 FY27), Godfrey Phillips reported a consolidated revenue from operations of Rs. 1,206 crore. This reflects a significant decline of 18.84 percent compared to Rs. 1,486 crore recorded in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year. Sequentially, revenue dropped by 32.51 percent from Rs. 1,787 crore in Q4 FY26.

The company’s profitability faced even steeper pressures. Consolidated net profit tumbled 44.38 percent year-on-year (YoY) to Rs. 198 crore, down from Rs. 356 crore in Q1 FY26. On a quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) basis, net profit plummeted by 62 percent from Rs. 521 crore reported in the preceding March quarter.

Consequently, the basic earnings per share (EPS) for the quarter stood at Rs. 12.72, registering a 44.31 percent drop compared to Rs. 22.84 in the same period last year. Company officials noted that the bottom-line performance was largely pressured by higher tax burdens during the quarter.

Revenue Mix and Segment Performance

Godfrey Phillips reported a Gross Sales Value (GSV) of Rs. 5,676 crore for the June quarter. The core tobacco business remained the primary revenue engine, contributing an overwhelming 99 percent to total gross sales.

A breakdown of the segment reveals:

  • Domestic Tobacco Sales: Rs. 5,375 crore
  • International Tobacco Sales: Rs. 264 crore

These figures underscore the firm’s heavy reliance on its traditional manufacturing, marketing, and distribution footprint spanning cigarettes, tobacco products, cigars, and confectionery, alongside its convenience retail operations across domestic and international markets.

Long-Term Outlook Remains Resilient

Despite the turbulent June quarter—driven by higher taxation and sequential earnings compression—market analysts and company commentary point to underlying strengths. Resilient cigarette volume off-take, robust performances from flagship brands, and sustained strategic investments are expected to support the company’s long-term growth trajectory moving forward.
