Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday chaired the second high-level review meeting with Secretaries to the Government of India, urging ministries to work in greater coordination, accelerate reforms and strengthen indigenous technological capabilities to advance the vision of Viksit Bharat.
Held at the Prime Minister’s residence, the meeting reviewed the future action agenda of ministries and departments dealing with finance and economy, commerce and industry, and technology. Senior officials, including the Cabinet Secretary, Secretaries of key ministries and departments, and officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, attended the discussions.
During the meeting, Mr Modi stressed the importance of fostering a collaborative work culture across ministries, calling for the elimination of both horizontal and vertical silos within the government. He said departments must function with a shared sense of purpose and deliver integrated, citizen-focused outcomes.
Reiterating that the welfare of citizens should remain at the heart of policymaking, the Prime Minister said every government decision must reflect the interests and aspirations of the people. While highlighting the government’s continued emphasis on infrastructure development, he also called for equal focus on building indigenous technologies and enhancing India’s self-reliance in critical sectors.
Mr Modi underscored the strategic importance of energy security, describing it as closely linked to national security, economic resilience and public welfare. He urged ministries to pursue innovation, diversify energy sources and accelerate capacity creation to achieve greater energy self-sufficiency.
The Prime Minister also called for reforms in administrative processes, improvements in work culture and enhanced institutional efficiency to ensure better governance and faster implementation of government initiatives.
Emphasising the growing role of digital technologies, Mr Modi said rapid technological adoption must be accompanied by robust cybersecurity measures to protect India’s digital infrastructure. He urged constant vigilance against emerging cyber threats and encouraged greater participation by young innovators and entrepreneurs in strengthening the country’s cybersecurity ecosystem, saying it should evolve into a nationwide movement.
Addressing the importance of public communication, the Prime Minister called for proactive outreach on strategic national initiatives to counter misinformation and unfounded concerns surrounding key government programmes.
He also stressed the need to align higher education with future industry requirements, suggesting that new academic courses be developed in partnership with industry to equip the workforce with skills required for emerging technologies and sectors.
Concluding the meeting, Mr Modi observed that governments must remain youthful, dynamic and forward-looking, adapting continuously to new opportunities and challenges through innovation and agility.
The meeting also featured detailed presentations by Secretaries on progress, priorities and implementation challenges across their respective ministries as the government seeks to accelerate its development agenda.
