US stocks edged higher yesterday, buoyed by positive corporate earnings reports from some companies. Also, the number of Americans filing new applications for unemployment benefits decreased last week, the Labour Department report showed yesterday. The Nasdaq Composite surged 1.5 percent, the S&P 500 rose over one percent, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained over 0.7 percent.
