Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Mr Piyush Goyal today reaffirmed the growing depth of the India–Brazil partnership, describing it as a “vibrant and forward-looking relationship” based on mutual trust, economic cooperation, and shared democratic values.
Speaking at the India–Brazil Business Dialogue in New Delhi, Mr Goyal welcomed Brazil’s Vice President Geraldo Alckmin and Minister of Defense José Múcio Monteiro Filho, noting that their participation reflected both nations’ commitment to advancing strategic and economic collaboration.
Marking World Food Day, the Minister highlighted the agricultural synergy between India and Brazil — two leading agri-producing nations that play pivotal roles in global food security. He emphasized opportunities for joint ventures in agri-business, food processing, and biofuel innovation, which could help build a sustainable and resilient global supply chain.
Quoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mr Goyal said India–Brazil relations should be “as colourful as a carnival and as passionate as football,” symbolizing the vibrancy and energy of both nations. He praised Brazil for integrating yoga and Ayurveda into its healthcare ecosystem, underscoring how traditional knowledge and wellness practices could deepen cultural and health cooperation.
Highlighting India’s robust economic momentum, Mr Goyal said that the country’s 7.8% GDP growth in the first quarter of FY26 reaffirms its status as the world’s fastest-growing major economy. He attributed this performance to three strong pillars — sound macroeconomic fundamentals, accelerated infrastructure development, and sustained efforts to improve citizens’ quality of life.
He pointed out that India’s USD 700 billion in foreign exchange reserves, stable inflation, and structural reforms have strengthened investor confidence. These measures, he noted, open new opportunities for Brazilian companies in energy, agriculture, defense, technology, and clean industries.
Mr Goyal also underlined that India and Brazil share a strong voice in global platforms such as BRICS and G20, advocating for South–South cooperation, equitable globalization, and sustainable development.
Concluding his address, Mr Goyal quoted Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, saying, “No one can reap the fruit before planting the trees.” He said that India and Brazil have planted the seeds of long-term friendship and economic growth that will yield mutual prosperity, innovation, and global leadership in the decades to come.
