If farmer suicides are to be stopped, it is essential not only to introduce advanced technology in agriculture but also to set up processing industries for farm produce, said Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the decade celebration program of Naam Foundation.
The event was also attended by State Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, Industries and Marathi Language Minister Uday Samant, Naam Foundation founders actors Nana Patekar and Makrand Anaspure, as well as veteran scientist Vijay Bhatkar, among others.
He said, Naam Foundation, with a sense of social responsibility, has carried out significant work in water conservation and preventing farmer suicides in the state.”
He added that if irrigation and milk production increase in the state, the problems of farmers will be largely resolved.
Agriculture must improve, farmers should get fair prices for their produce, and only then will they prosper, Gadkari said.
