The Defence Ministry today signed a contract with Cochin Shipyard Limited for the short refit and dry docking of INS Vikramaditya at an overall cost of more than 1,200 crore rupees.

The Defence Ministry said that this project is an important step towards the development of Cochin Shipyard Limited as a Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul Hub for supporting the industrial ecosystem of India. INS Vikramaditya is an Indian aircraft carrier commissioned in the Indian Navy in November 2013.

After the completion of the refit, the aircraft carrier will join the active fleet of the Indian Navy with upgraded combat capability.

The Project will provide a major boost to Government of India’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiative.

Cochin Shipyard was incorporated in the year 1972 as a fully owned Government of India company. In the last three decades the company has emerged as a forerunner in the Indian Shipbuilding & Ship repair industry. This yard can build and repair the largest vessels in India.
