Expenditure on R&D more than doubled in last decade says Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh has said that the country’s Research and Development spending has doubled in the last decade, from more than sixty thousand crore in 2013-14 to 1.27 Lakh Crore rupees. Speaking at the DISHA program event in New Delhi, the Minister said that the program will propel the country’s knowledge economy and strengthen Atmanirbhar Bharat. Dr. Singh also highlighted the government’s multi-pronged strategy to position the country as a global leader in deep-tech innovation and commercialization. He asserted that homegrown innovations in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Biotechnology, and Quantum Computing will shape the country’s economic future. Underscoring the need for balancing between AI and human expertise, Dr. Singh said the role of AI is to complement human intelligence and not replace it. Further, the Minister urged young innovators to take the lead in shaping the country’s technological future. He stated that the responsibility of building a technologically advanced India lies with the next generation.
