India and Indonesia have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with both sides reviewing the entire spectrum of bilateral relations and identifying new avenues for cooperation during high-level talks held in New Delhi.
Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono held discussions with External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and co-chaired the 8th India-Indonesia Joint Commission Meeting (JCM). The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said Indonesia remains a key pillar of India’s Act East Policy, and the partnership between the two countries, rooted in deep civilisational ties, continues to grow across both traditional and emerging sectors.
During the meeting, the two leaders reviewed cooperation in political, defence and security, maritime affairs, trade and investment, pharmaceuticals and healthcare, digital technology, energy, connectivity, space, education, culture, consular matters and people-to-people exchanges. They also explored ways to further strengthen collaboration in these areas.
The MEA said discussions reflected the renewed momentum in bilateral ties generated by engagements between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, including the latter’s State Visit to India in January 2025.
The two sides also exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual interest and reaffirmed their commitment to closer coordination in regional and multilateral forums. Welcoming the positive trajectory of bilateral relations, both countries agreed to hold the next Joint Commission Meeting at a mutually convenient date in the near future.
Earlier, Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono said he looked forward to Prime Minister Modi’s forthcoming visit to Indonesia, expressing confidence that the visit would provide an important opportunity to further deepen bilateral cooperation and deliver tangible benefits to the people of both countries.
