July 01: Markets Close Flat After Range-Bound Session, Sensex rose 91 pts, Nifty-added 25

Indian Domestic benchmark equity indices saw marginal gains today July 1 in a rather subdued trading session. The Sensex rose 91 points to close at 83,697, while the Nifty-50 added 25 points, settling at 25,542. Both indices increased by 0.1%.

However, the broader market indices at the BSE experienced minor losses, breaking their seven-day winning streak. The Mid-Cap index closed nearly unchanged, and the Small-Cap index dipped almost 0.2%.

Market Performance Breakdown

  • Sensex Performers:
    • Laggards: Out of 30 companies, 17 closed in negative territory. Axis Bank led the declines, shedding over 2.1%, followed by Trent (down more than 1.2%) and Eternal (down over 1.1%).
    • Gainers: Bharat Electronics jumped 2.5%, Reliance climbed over 1.8%, and Asian Paints advanced nearly 1.2%.
  • Sectoral Performance (BSE):
    • Declining Sectors: 12 out of 21 sectors ended down. FMCG dipped nearly 0.7%, Power slipped 0.4%, and Utilities fell more than 0.3%.
    • Rising Sectors: Telecommunication surged over 0.5%, Consumer Durables and Energy both climbed more than 0.4% each, and Metal rose 0.3%.

Market Breadth
