Benchmark domestic equity indices ended with marginal gains today following a day of range-bound trading. The Sensex edged up by 143 points, or 0.17%, to close at 82,001, while the Nifty gained 33 points, or 0.13%, to settle at 25,084.
The broader market indices, however, saw a muted close. The Mid-Cap index dipped over 0.1%, and the Small-Cap index remained unchanged.
Company Performance
Of the 30 companies in the Sensex pack, 16 closed in the red. The top laggards included Power Grid, which lost 1.5%, Eternal, which dropped around 1.5%, and Hindustan Unilever, which fell over 1%.
Conversely, top gainers for the day were Bajaj Financial Services, up over 1.1%, ICICI Bank, which advanced almost 1.1%, and Bajaj Finance, climbing 0.9%.
Sectoral Highlights
On the BSE, 11 of the 21 sectoral indices ended in positive territory. Leading the gains were the Healthcare sector, up by 0.6%, Realty, which rose over 0.4%, and Industrials, advancing over 0.2%.
Sectors facing losses included Power, which was down more than 0.9%, Utilities, dropping over 0.6%, and Services, which dipped over 0.5%.
The overall market breadth was positive, with 2,094 companies seeing their share prices advance compared to 2,000 that declined, while 154 remained unchanged.

In the Sensex pack, 16 out of 30 companies saw declines. The main laggards were:
- Power Grid: down 1.5%
- Eternal: down about 1.5%
- Hindustan Unilever: down over 1%
On the other hand, the top performers were:
- Bajaj Financial Services: up over 1.1%
- ICICI Bank: up almost 1.1%
- Bajaj Finance: up 0.9%
