India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will head a high-level trade and investment delegation to Canada early next year, aiming to deepen bilateral commercial ties and formally launch negotiations on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). The visit follows recent discussions where India and Canada agreed to maintain sustained ministerial engagement with industry leaders in 2026.

Sharing an update after talks with Canada’s Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development, Maninder Sidhu, Goyal said they held productive deliberations on the framework, objectives, and modalities for initiating CEPA negotiations. He confirmed his commitment to lead the delegation as part of this renewed momentum.

Sidhu’s visit to India last month underscored both nations’ focus on leveraging private-sector partnerships to unlock new trade and investment opportunities. The ministers reaffirmed the durability of the India–Canada economic partnership, with bilateral trade in goods and services reaching $23.66 billion in 2024. Merchandise trade alone grew 10 per cent year-on-year to $8.98 billion.

Both sides also emphasized stronger cooperation in critical minerals, clean energy, aerospace, and dual-use technologies, while highlighting the need for resilient and diversified supply chains in key sectors such as agriculture.
