Says the day is not far when India’s smallest chip will drive the biggest change in the world

New Delhi — Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated Semicon India 2025 at Yashobhoomi, here, declaring that the day is not far when “India’s smallest chip will bring the biggest change in the world.”
The three-day global conference, designed to accelerate India’s semiconductor ecosystem, will feature sessions on cutting-edge themes including smart manufacturing, artificial intelligence, research and development, state-level policy initiatives, and investment opportunities.
T he three-day Conference will focus on advancing a robust, resilient, and sustainable semiconductor ecosystem in the country. It will feature sessions on the progress of the Semicon India Programme, smart manufacturing, innovations in Research and Development and artificial intelligence, investment opportunities, state-level policy implementation, among others.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the world trusts India, believes in India, and is ready to build the semiconductor future with India. Inaugurating Semicon India 2025 at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi today, Mr. Modi said the day is not far when India’s smallest chip will drive the biggest change in the world. The Prime Minister remarked that while oil was once called black gold, chips are the new digital diamonds. He said, oil shaped the last century, but in the 21st century, power lies within these tiny chips. He said they hold the potential to accelerate global progress.
Mr Modi said the global semiconductor market is projected to cross one trillion dollars in the coming years, and with the speed at which India is advancing, the country will secure a significant share of this market. The Prime Minister said 18 billion dollars are being invested in 10 semiconductor projects approved since 2021. He added that India is also working on a Critical Minerals Mission to meet the growing demand for rare minerals. The Prime Minister said the day is not far when the world will say Designed in India, Made in India, and Trusted by the World. He also announced that the government will soon launch the next generation of reforms.
Speaking about the GDP data for the first quarter, the Prime Minister said India has once again performed better than every expectation and every assessment. He said at a time when there are global concerns and challenges created by economic selfishness, India has registered a growth of 7.8 per cent.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Union Minister for Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, said that since the launch of the India Semiconductor Mission, the world is looking towards India with full confidence. He informed that the construction of five semiconductor units is going on at a rapid pace in the country. He also presented the first “Made in India chip” to the Prime Minister. He added that two more such manufacturing units will start production in a few months.
