Prime Minister Narendra Modi today called upon citizens to unite to ease the burden on national resources, terming the West Asia conflict one of the decade’s biggest crises. The Prime Minister, inaugurating the Sardardham Hostel in Vadodara, said the government is making continuous efforts to ensure that this situation has the minimal possible impact on the people of the country.
He said today there is a need for all of us to come together to discharge our duties and to alleviate the burden placed upon the nation’s resources. Mr Modi said through every effort – whether small or large – we must reduce our use of products imported from abroad and also refrain from personal activities that entail the expenditure of foreign currency.’ He said the need of the hour is that we transform “Vocal for Local” into a mass movement. Mr Modi said in place of foreign goods, let us embrace local products and let us empower the entrepreneurs of our villages, our cities, and our country.’
The Prime Minister also said that in previous decades, whenever the nation faced a war or any other major crisis, every citizen had similarly fulfilled their responsibilities in response to the government’s appeal. Mr Modi said if the COVID-19 pandemic were the greatest crisis of this century, then the situation arising from the conflict in West Asia stands as one of the major crises of this decade. He said just as we collectively overcame the challenge of COVID-19, we will undoubtedly surmount this crisis as well.
Sardardham Hostel in Vadodara includes hostel facilities for 1,000 boys and 1,000 girls, along with amenities like a central dining hall, library, and auditorium. Mr Modi also visited various facilities at the Sardardham complex, including the reception area, civil amenities, dining area, and e-library.
The Prime Minister appealed to people to adopt local products instead of foreign goods, reduce the use of petrol and diesel, and use the metro, electric vehicles, and public transport more. He also asked people to avoid buying gold until the situation normalizes. Mr. Modi emphasized giving priority to virtual meetings and working from home in offices. He also advised schools to continue with online classes for some time. Remembering the Iron Man, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, on this occasion, Mr. Modi said, today is a very special day because it marks 75 years since the restoration of the Somnath Temple, which was made possible by the resolve of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
At the inauguration ceremony, leaders of the Patidar community honoured Mr Modi with the Sardar Ratna Award. Earlier, Mr. Modi paid floral tributes to the statue of the Iron Man, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He also inspected the reception area, dining area, and e-library. It is worth mentioning that Sardardham, built at a cost of approximately Rs 150 crore, will have facilities including hostel accommodation for two thousand students, a central dining area, a library, and an assembly hall.
