Queen Maxima of the Netherlands, in her capacity as UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Financial Health (UNSGSA), visited Mumbai today to understand India’s UPI ecosystem and payroll-linked financial infrastructure to improve financial wellbeing of salaried individuals. She visited HCG Cancer Hospital, Colaba, where she interacted with healthcare professionals using SalarySe, a fintech platform integrated with corporate payroll systems offering instant credit, UPI payments and financial wellness tools.

Queen Maxima said access to financial services is vital, noting technology is helping people manage unexpected expenses, save and improve budgeting through insights into spending patterns. She praised India’s digital public infrastructure, including UPI, Aadhaar and the account aggregator framework, and said focus should now be on financial health outcomes.

On her three-day visit, she will attend an event organised by the Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth and meet Reserve Bank of India Governor Sanjay Malhotra tomorrow before departing for Delhi.
