Union Minister for Steel, Heavy Industries, and Public Enterprises, H.D. Kumaraswamy, inaugurated the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) representative office in Dubai, marking a key milestone in strengthening India-UAE bilateral relations and expanding global business opportunities for India’s largest steel producer.

Located in Lake Central, Business Bay, the office aims to serve as a strategic hub for SAIL’s operations in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by several senior dignitaries, including Satish Kumar Sivan, Consul General of India in Dubai; Amarendu Prakash, Chairman and Managing Director of SAIL; the Joint Secretary from the Ministry of Steel; CMD of NMDC, senior representatives from MECON, and officials from the Consulate General of India.

In his address, Minister Kumaraswamy highlighted the significance of expanding the global footprint of India’s public sector undertakings (PSUs). “By establishing offices for three PSUs — SAIL, MECON, and NMDC — we are reinforcing India’s commitment to deepen economic cooperation with the UAE,” he said. “The encouraging business environment here presents excellent opportunities for expanding our manufacturing reach and increasing steel exports from India to this region.”

He added that the initiative reflects India’s broader vision of leveraging strong diplomatic ties with the UAE to advance economic interests. “The opening of these offices marks the beginning of a new chapter in Indo-UAE relations. I sincerely thank our missions in Abu Dhabi and Dubai for their continued support.”

SAIL, with an annual crude steel production capacity exceeding 20 million tonnes, is looking to leverage Dubai’s strategic location to expand its presence across the MENA region. The region’s robust infrastructure growth, favorable trade conditions, and increasing demand for steel make it a key market for SAIL’s international ambitions.

The Dubai office is expected to unlock substantial business potential for SAIL while aligning with India’s long-term strategy to grow its steel output to 300 million tonnes by 2030 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. The move underscores India’s resolve to position its public enterprises as global players and deepen strategic partnerships through trade and industrial collaboration.
