Ten states and NCDRC achieve over 100% consumer case disposal rate in July 2025

In a major boost to consumer grievance redressal, the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) and ten states recorded over 100 percent disposal rates for consumer cases in July 2025, resolving more cases than were filed during the period, according to the Department of Consumer Affairs.

The NCDRC achieved a disposal rate of 122 percent, while Tamil Nadu led with an impressive 277 percent, followed by Rajasthan at 214 percent, Telangana at 158 percent, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand at 150 percent each, Meghalaya at 140 percent, Kerala at 122 percent, Puducherry at 111 percent, Chhattisgarh at 108 percent, and Uttar Pradesh at 101 percent. The data reflects a significant improvement in case resolution compared to July 2024, highlighting ongoing efforts to ensure timely justice for consumers.

The e-Jagriti platform, launched by the Department of Consumer Affairs on January 1, 2025, has further transformed the grievance redressal landscape. As of August 6, 2025, over two lakh users, including non-resident Indians, have registered on the platform, with 85,531 cases filed this year alone. The unified digital platform integrates legacy systems like OCMS, e-Daakhil, NCDRC CMS, and CONFONET, offering a seamless interface for filing complaints, paying fees, tracking cases, and conducting virtual hearings.

Designed for accessibility and efficiency, e-Jagriti supports OTP-based registration, multilingual assistance, chatbot services, and voice-to-text features for visually impaired and elderly users. Advocates benefit from dedicated modules for case tracking, document uploads, and Bar Council-integrated credential verification, while judges access digital case files, analytics dashboards, and virtual courtrooms. The platform’s integration with Bharat Kosh and PayGov ensures secure fee transactions, with end-to-end encryption and digitized workflows reducing paper use and travel, promoting environmental sustainability.

Several success stories highlight e-Jagriti’s impact. In Tamil Nadu’s Dharmapuri, a consumer received a refund of Rs 14,429 for a defective television, along with Rs 5,000 for mental anguish and Rs 10,000 for litigation costs, with the case resolved in 80 days. In Thanjavur, another consumer was awarded a Rs 99,500 refund for NEET coaching fees, 9 percent interest, Rs 5 lakh compensation, and Rs 10,000 litigation costs within 79 days. In Punjab’s Barnala, a consumer secured a Rs 3.09 lakh refund for defective tiles causing structural issues, plus Rs 10,000 for mental anguish and Rs 5,000 for litigation, resolved in 141 days. In Haryana’s Rewari, a defective dishwasher case led to a Rs 48,000 refund, Rs 13,097 for maintenance costs, and Rs 25,000 compensation in 70 days. In Ahmedabad, Gujarat, a consumer won full reimbursement for a wrongfully denied mediclaim, 7 percent interest, and Rs 2,000 each for harassment and litigation costs within 30 days.

The Department of Consumer Affairs urged citizens to leverage e-Jagriti for transparent and efficient access to consumer justice, marking a significant step toward inclusive and swift dispute resolution across India.
