Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw today said that a record budget of 2 lakh 78 crore rupees has been allotted for Railways in the Union Budget 2026-27. Addressing the media on state wise allocation of the budget, Mr Vaishnaw said that Assam and the northeastern states have been allocated a budget of 11 thousand 486 crore rupees.

He said, more than 14 thousand crore rupees has been allocated for West Bengal, around 24 thousand crore for Maharashtra, over 20 thousand crore rupees to Uttar Pradesh and two thousand 711 crore rupees for Delhi.

Mr Vaishnaw said that Tamil Nadu has received a record railway budget of 7 thousand 611 crore rupees. He also mentioned that two new bullet train corridors will be started in Tamil Nadu. The Minister said a provision of 3 thousand 795 crore rupees have been made in the Union Budget for Kerala.

Mr Vaishnaw said, the Centre is planning underground rail tracks along a 40 kilometres strategic corridor connecting the Northeast with the rest of India.

Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu and V Somanna were also present in the briefing.
