The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day today as deadlock continued over the issue of Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The House witnessed two adjournments before being finally adjourned for the day, following the opposition’s demand for discussion over the SIR issue. When the Lok Sabha met after the second adjournment at 2 PM, the opposition members again trooped into the well, raising slogans against the SIR.
The Presiding Officer tried to run the House but in vain. He urged the protesting members to allow the House to function. Despite the repeated appeal, the opposition continued with their protest. This led to adjournment of the House for the day.
Earlier, when the Lok Sabha assembled at 12 noon after the first adjournment, the opposition members including Congress, DMK, TMC, and others trooped into the well and pressed for their demand. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju appealed to the opposition MPs not to disrupt the House proceedings. He said the government is ready to discuss any issue in the House. He said there are other issues also which require attention but the opposition is adamant on a single issue. As the opposition continued with its sloganeering, the Presiding Officer adjourned the Lower House till 2 PM.
Earlier, when the Lok Sabha assembled at 11 AM, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla welcomed a parliamentary delegation from Georgia led by President of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili. Mr Birla said, the visit of the parliamentary delegation to India is a symbol of the depth of relations between the two countries. Mr Birla said, this visit will further strengthen bilateral cooperation and ties between the two nations.
In the Rajya Sabha, when the House assembled after the first adjournment at 2 PM, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju reiterated that the government is ready for discussion related to further electoral reforms which the opposition parties are demanding. Leader of Opposition in the House, Mallikarjun Kharge said, discussion on SIR issue may be taken on a priority basis under the rule 267. Echoing the same view, Tiruchi Siva of DMK said, the discussion must be held on SIR issue as it is a very serious issue. The opposition MPs from Congress, TMC, DMK and others started sloganeering over the SIR issue and staged a walkout. Later, the House discussed the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Second Amendment) Bill, 2025 and returned it. The bill seeks to amend the Manipur Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017. It will replace the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Second Amendment) Ordinance, 2025 which was promulgated in October this year. The Lok Sabha has already passed the Bill.
After Passing the Bill, the Rajya Sabha took up Special mention under which members raised the issues of urgent importance. After completing the business, the Chair adjourned the House for the Day.
Earlier, when the House assembled at 11 AM, Chairman CP Radhakrishnan welcomed the Parliamentary Delegation of Georgia to India. He said the visit will strengthen the bilateral relation between India and Georgia. When the Upper House took the Zero Hour, the opposition members started sloganeering demanding discussion over SIR and other issues. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that the government has repeatedly requested the opposition for smooth functioning and discussion in the House. He said the government will engage with the opposition over their issues. Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge said, SIR is an important matter. He demanded immediate discussion on it. As the opposition continued with their protest, the Chairman adjourned the House till 2 PM.
