The All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) has criticized the central government following the deaths of three Indian seafarers, including Shivanand Chaurasia, who were killed on June 10, 2026, when the US military struck the commercial vessel MT Settebello off the coast of Oman.

An AIKS delegation, led by National President Rajan Kshirsagar, recently visited Chaurasia’s bereaved family in Deoria, Uttar Pradesh. The organization condemned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the matter during the G7 Summit with US President Donald Trump, labeling the incident an unprovoked war crime against civilian seafarers. AIKS also criticized an eight-day delay in repatriating the bodies and alleged that the Uttar Pradesh police harassed the grieving family to suppress their protests.

The AIKS has put forward four major demands:

  • An official declaration of martyrdom for the three deceased seafarers.
  • A compensation of ₹5 crore for each victim’s family.
  • International prosecution of the incident as a war crime.
  • The immediate suspension of all US-India trade negotiations.

While the union government has not yet issued an official response to the AIKS’s specific allegations, diplomatic sources typically emphasize that complex maritime incidents involving international militaries require thorough investigation before formal state actions or bilateral protests are initiated.
