Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has busted organised gold smuggling syndicates in Eastern and North Eastern part of India. The agency carried out coordinated operations in Kolkata and Agartala and seized around 17 kilogram foreign origin gold worth 25 crore rupees. The DRI arrested 10 persons in connection with the case.

Yesterday in Kolkata, DRI arrested seven persons, including one woman who were attempting to smuggle 11.6 kilogram of gold from Thailand through Kolkata airport. On the same day in Agartala, the agency arrested three persons who were smuggling around 5 kilogram foreign-origin gold through Tripura sector of Indo-Bangladesh border. The operation was conducted in coordination with Railway Protection Force.
