Benchmark domestic equity indices ended with modest losses in a volatile trade today, extending their declines to the sixth straight session. The 30-share index at the Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex, shed 122 points to close at 76,171. Similarly, the National Stock Exchange Nifty-50 fell 26 points to settle at 23,045. The broader market indices at BSE also ended in negative territory. The Mid-Cap index slipped over 0.4 percent, and the Small-Cap index dropped almost half a percent.

The BSE Sensex settled at 76,171.08, down 122.52 points or 0.16 per cent from its previous close. The 30-share index traded in the range of 76,459.72–75,388.39 today. 

The NSE Nifty50 ended down 26.55 points or 0.12 per cent at 23,045.25. The index recorded an intraday high of 23,144.70, while the day’s low was seen at 22,798.35. 

Bajaj FinServ, SBI Life, Tata Steel, HDFC Life, and Sriram Finance were among the top gainers on the Nifty50, which ended with gains of up to 2.72 percent. Meanwhile, the top laggards among Nifty50 constituent stocks included Mahindra & Mahindra, Eicher Motors, Bharat Electronics, IndusInd Bank, and Power Grid Corporation of India with losses extending up to 3.20 per cent. Notably, index heavyweight Reliance Industries settled down 1.44 per cent. 

Among the broader markets, the Nifty Midcap100 and Nifty Smallcap100 indices settled with losses of 0.26 per cent each.  Sectoral indices on the NSE ended on a mixed note, with banking, financial services, and metal indices ending higher by up to 0.84 per cent. The Nifty Realty index was the top laggard, settling down by 2.74 per cent. Among others, the Nifty IT, Auto, FMCG, Pharma, and Healthcare indices ended down by up to 1.14 per cent.
