Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) have remained net buyers of Indian equities so far in August. According to the latest depository data, FPIs have invested 23,544 crore rupees in the domestic stock market till now in August.
Of the total investment, 14,118 crore rupees came through purchases on stock exchanges, while 9,426 crore rupees were invested through the primary market. The buying momentum, which gathered pace in July, has continued into August, supported by resilient domestic fundamentals and strong quarterly earnings. Global liquidity is also shifting back towards emerging markets as concerns grow over stretched valuations in the Artificial Intelligence sector.
Meanwhile, the debt market has witnessed mixed trends in Foreign Portfolio Investors flows. So far in August, FPIs have withdrawn 995 crore rupees from debt securities through the General Limit route, while the Voluntary Retention Route (VRR) has recorded outflows of 83 crore rupees. In contrast, the Fully Accessible Route (FAR) has seen inflows of 852 crore rupees during the period under review.
