India today strongly condemned Pakistan’s reported air strikes on Afghan territory, describing the attacks as a violation of Afghanistan’s sovereignty and a serious threat to regional peace and stability.
In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the strikes had resulted in civilian casualties, including women and children, and termed Pakistan’s military action an “unprovoked aggression” against Afghanistan.
“India strongly condemns Pakistan’s air strikes on Afghan territory that have resulted in several civilian casualties, including women and children. This blatant act of aggression by Pakistan is an assault on Afghanistan’s sovereignty and a direct threat to regional peace and stability,” the MEA said.
The ministry further accused Pakistan of following a “persistent pattern of reckless behaviour” and attempting to divert attention from its internal challenges through military action beyond its borders.
“It reflects Pakistan’s persistent pattern of reckless behaviour and its futile attempt to externalize internal failures through desperate acts of violence beyond its borders,” the statement added.
India also expressed condolences to the families of those killed in the strikes and wished a speedy recovery to those injured. Reaffirming its long-standing position, New Delhi reiterated its support for Afghanistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and the welfare of its people.
The latest condemnation comes amid heightened tensions along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, where clashes between Pakistani security forces and armed groups have intensified in recent months. Pakistan has repeatedly claimed that militant outfits operating from Afghan territory were responsible for cross-border attacks, allegations that Afghan authorities have consistently rejected.
The reported air strikes are expected to further strain relations between Islamabad and Kabul at a time when regional security remains fragile following the withdrawal of international forces from Afghanistan and the continuing threat posed by extremist groups.
India has maintained that lasting peace in the region can only be achieved through respect for national sovereignty, dialogue and adherence to international law. New Delhi has also continued to provide humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan and has repeatedly stressed the importance of an inclusive and stable Afghan state.
Diplomatic observers say India’s sharp statement reflects growing concern over escalating military actions in the region, warning that continued cross-border strikes risk worsening the humanitarian situation and undermining efforts to restore stability in South Asia.
