Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla inaugurated the Zone-2 conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region at the Haryana Legislative Assembly in Chandigarh today. Sharing the dais with him on this occasion were Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Shri Harivansh, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Haryana Assembly Speaker Harvinder Kalyan, Deputy Speaker Krishan Lal Middha, and Haryana’s Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mahipal Dhanda.

Addressing the inaugural session, Shri Om Birla highlighted the importance of democratic institutions and stated that the objective of this conference is to realize the historic resolve of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) through mutual dialogue and collective efforts.

The Lok Sabha Speaker remarked that it is our responsibility to fulfill the vision for the development of the state and the country.

Prior to the Lok Sabha Speaker, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Shri Harivansh also addressed the conference. He shed light on the efforts being made to transform the nation into a developed country and the achievements made so far.

Addressing the inaugural session, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini spoke of the six pillars of development and emphasized inclusive growth. He stated that only developed states would realize the dream of a developed India.

A special documentary film on the history of Haryana was also screened during the inaugural session. In this three-day event, legislators and presiding officers from across India will discuss crucial topics such as the role of legislators in nation-building under ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’, Artificial Intelligence, and making democratic institutions more effective.

Speakers, Deputy Speakers, and Secretaries from 12 states and Union Territories-including Delhi, Goa, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal-are participating in this conference.
