The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Haryana-cadre IPS officer Deepak Gehlawat (2012 batch) for allegedly demanding a ₹30 crore bribe from criminals involved in the fake medicines trade. Gehlawat, currently serving as Regional Director at the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) in Delhi, is accused of seeking ₹1.5 crore in advance.

According to CBI sources, Gehlawat assured accused N. Raja that he would use his personal influence and connections to secure relief in ongoing CBI investigations related to counterfeit drug sales in Puducherry.

On June 8, 2026, acting on specific intelligence, the CBI laid a trap and caught Delhi Police Crime Branch Inspector Pradeep Singh red-handed while accepting bribe money. Alongside Singh, six others were arrested, and authorities recovered ₹25 lakh in trap money and an additional ₹90 lakh.

However, questions have been raised about the CBI’s handling of the case. Despite clear evidence, the agency did not officially disclose Gehlawat’s involvement to the media, nor did it mention his name in the FIR. Instead, the FIR listed Inspector Pradeep Singh, accused N. Raja (alias Valliappan Rajasekhar), his associate Rajkumar (alias Madanraj), and other unnamed officials.

Investigations revealed that on May 14, 2026, Raja and Rajkumar met Inspector Pradeep Singh near Aerocity, IGI Airport, New Delhi. Singh allegedly took them to the office of a senior government officer, who demanded ₹3 crore in exchange for relief in CBI cases. Despite this, the FIR referred to the officer only as an “unknown senior official.”

Critics argue that with such detailed intelligence, it is implausible that the CBI did not know the officer’s identity before filing the FIR. This omission has fueled speculation that the agency deliberately withheld Gehlawat’s name.
