The Government of India today said that domestic LPG supply remains stable across the country despite disruptions triggered by the ongoing West Asia crisis. Addressing an inter-ministerial briefing in New Delhi, Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Sujata Sharma, said LPG supply continues to remain normal, with no dry-outs reported at distributorships nationwide.
She noted that as of yesterday, nearly 50 lakh LPG cylinders were delivered to households. Ms Sharma added that around 98 per cent of LPG bookings are now made online, while 93 per cent of deliveries are authenticated through a delivery authentication code mechanism.
On the commercial front, she said supply restoration has reached nearly 70 per cent, with around 8,200 tonnes of commercial LPG sold yesterday. Over 79 lakh 19-kg commercial cylinders have been sold since the 14th of last month. She also highlighted that public sector oil marketing companies recorded an increase in auto LPG sales from 177 tonnes per day in February to around 296 tonnes per day in April, marking a 67 per cent rise. Additionally, over 16.5 lakh 5-kg cylinders have been sold so far.
Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Mukesh Mangal, said the Ministry is continuously coordinating with the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian missions, and maritime stakeholders to ensure the welfare of seafarers and uninterrupted maritime operations. He informed that all Indian seafarers in the region are safe, and no incident involving Indian-flagged vessels has been reported in the past 24 hours.
He added that the DigiShipping control room has handled over 6,700 calls and nearly 14,000 emails since its activation, including 147 calls and 276 emails in the past 24 hours. The Ministry has facilitated the safe repatriation of more than 2400 Indian seafarers so far, including 30 in the last 24 hours.
Additional Secretary (Gulf) in the Ministry of External Affairs, Assem R. Mahajan, said the Ministry continues to closely monitor developments in the West Asia region, with a focus on ensuring the safety, security, and welfare of the large Indian community there. He said the Ministry is in constant touch with state governments and Union Territories for information sharing.
Mr Mahajan added that the Ministry’s dedicated control room remains operational and is working in coordination with Indian missions to provide timely assistance and address queries. He said Indian missions are actively engaging with the Indian community and are regularly interacting with associations, organisations, professional groups, and Indian companies in the region.
