The Dubai chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) celebrated CA Day with a powerful event themed “The Story of Comebacks”, bringing together senior dignitaries from India and the UAE to honor resilience, professional excellence, and the enduring partnership between the two nations.
The programme began with a ceremonial cake-cutting led by ICAI Dubai chairman C.A. Rishi Chawla, symbolizing unity and celebration. The event was graced by Sheikh Nahayan bin Mubarak Al Nahayan, UAE Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, Dr. Deepak Mittal, India’s Ambassador to the UAE, and Arun Singh, Rajya Sabha MP and chartered accountant.
Sheikh Nahayan praised the Indian community’s contributions across UAE society, describing India-UAE ties as “among the strongest and most dynamic partnerships in the world.” He acknowledged the transformative role of artificial intelligence in accounting but stressed that it could never replace wisdom, ethics, or trust — qualities that define the profession.
Arun Singh inspired the audience by recounting his journey from Allahabad to Delhi in 1984 to pursue chartered accountancy despite skepticism. He lauded the Indian diaspora’s resilience during recent West Asia crises, noting their decision to remain in the UAE reflected confidence and reliability. Singh also highlighted India’s reform agenda, citing the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, GST, Jan Vishwas Bill, and UPI as cornerstones of a “New India.”
Ambassador Dr. Mittal painted a sweeping picture of India’s economic rise, noting its GDP of $4.4 trillion, vast foreign exchange reserves, and status as the fastest-growing major economy. He emphasized the strength of the India-UAE partnership, pointing to milestones such as the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, the Bilateral Investment Treaty, UPI expansion, and the virtual trade corridor. He underscored that bilateral trade has exceeded $100 billion for two consecutive years, reflecting the depth of economic ties.
C.A. Rishi Chawla captured the spirit of the occasion, declaring that “every CA has a story of perseverance, sacrifice, and resilience.” He emphasized that comebacks define the profession and thanked dignitaries, members, and the wider fraternity for their support.
The event also featured a special address by Dr. Surender Singh Kandhari, Pravasi Bharatiya Samman awardee and Chairman of Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara, Dubai, who spoke on leadership, service, and harmony in multicultural societies. Cultural performances under the “ICAI Dubai Got Talent” segment showcased the diverse talents of members, adding vibrancy to the celebration.
Founded in 1982, the ICAI Dubai chapter has grown into the largest and most decorated among ICAI’s 53 overseas chapters. With over 3,200 members and a reach extending to 6,000 chartered accountants across 1,550 multinational and leading companies in the UAE, it stands as a formidable pillar of the Indian professional community in the Gulf.
This celebration not only honored the resilience of chartered accountants but also reaffirmed their pivotal role in strengthening India-UAE ties and shaping global business landscapes.
