Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has announced that $6 billion of the country’s frozen assets held in Qatar will be released and transferred back to Iran under recent arrangements, describing the development as part of a broader achievement resulting from the nation’s resilience, reports IRNA.

Speaking during a meeting with Grand Ayatollah Mousa Shobeiri Zanjani in the holy city of Qom, Pezeshkian said the funds represent half of the $12 billion in Iranian assets currently held in Qatar. He added that efforts are continuing to secure the return of the remaining balance.

The president praised the Iranian people for their steadfastness in the face of external pressure and recent security challenges.

He said that despite the martyrdom of senior officials, military commanders, prominent figures, and students during the recent war imposed by the US and the Israeli regime, Iran’s public, the armed forces, and the government acted together to prevent the country’s adversaries from achieving their objectives.

Pezeshkian said the United States and the Israeli regime had sought to destabilize Iran through economic pressure and attacks on key infrastructure, including gas production facilities, steel plants, and the petrochemical sector, while also attempting to restrict Iranian oil exports. He said these efforts failed due to public support and national unity.

Describing the recent Pakistan-mediated memorandum of understanding between Iran and the US as a major victory for the Iranian people, the president said it includes the removal of sanctions on Iran’s oil and petrochemical sectors.

He added that alongside reconstruction efforts, the government has expanded social support measures, including increasing the value of electronic food assistance vouchers.

Reaffirming Iran’s position on its nuclear program, Pezeshkian said the country is not seeking nuclear weapons and that its nuclear program will continue solely to meet national needs within its declared policies.

He also said that the United States ultimately compelled the Israeli regime to accept the recent MoU despite opposition from the regime and some monarchist groups.
